Not Fried Rice
Submitted by: pkrantz2759219
The brown rice in this easy side-dish adds a nutty flavor and crunchy texture. To make it a main-dish, stir in some diced cooked chicken or beef.
Ingredients
- 1 cup water
- 1 cup instant brown rice
- 2 tsp. soy sauce
- 1 cup assorted add-ins (sliced green onions, shredded cabbage, bean sprouts, crisp-cooked chopped vegetables)
- 1/2 tsp. ground ginger
- 1 tbsp. oyster sauce (optional)

Method
Add water, rice, and soy sauce to a saucepan. Bring to a boil. Reduce to simmer and cook, covered, for 5 minutes. (Or follow package directions, omitting butter and salt.) Remove saucepan from heat. Stir in add-ins, ginger, and oyster sauce (if using). Cover and allow to sit for 5 minutes. Stir and serve.
Notes: Thanks to the brown rice, this really does taste like fried rice, but the calorie and fat counts are lower.
